Big Plans for Mount Pleasant are Underway.

Funding Shortage Resolved and Contracts Awarded for Water & Sewer Projects - December 31, 2024

In December, the Town of Mount Pleasant awarded contracts to the lowest responsible bidders for the Lower Adams Creek Sewer Outfall Project and Water Distribution Improvements.  Work is expected to begin in Spring 2025.

Sewer Line Work Continues on A Street and Reid Street - November 7, 2024

On Monday, November 11, sewer line replacement will begin on A Street and Reid Street. Work will continue for approximately 3-4 weeks. There will be a lane shift on Highway 73 (E. Franklin St.) for 2 days to make the tie in to the sewer main.

Status of Project Construction Bids - October 3, 2024

The bid deadline for the Mount Pleasant Water Line Project and Lower Adams Creek Sewer Outfall Project was September 25, 2024.  The Sewer Outfall Project received five bids.  The Town and project engineer are currently performing due diligence to verify the lowest responsible bid.  The water line project only received two bids.  State law requires a minimum of three bids to open.  Therefore, the Water Line Project has been readvertised and bids will now be opened on October 16, 2024 at 2pm.

Sewer Line Replacement to Close Lane on Hwy. 73 - September 25, 2024

As part of the sewer line work, traffic on East Franklin Street (NC Highway 73) will be reduced to one lane down to one lane in the vicintiy of C Street.  Work will begin Sunday, September 29, 2024 and will continue 24 hours a day for approximately one week.  The round the clock schedule has been approved by NCDOT in order to expedite the work and reduce the amount of time for the lane closure.

Water and Sewer Projects Go to Bid - August 22, 2024

The long-awaited Mount Pleasant water line and Lower Adams Creek Sewer Outfall projects went out to bid this week.  Bid submittals are due September 25, 2024.  The Town Board of Commissioners is scheduled to accept the low bid at its October meeting and hopes to start the water line project by the end of the year.

Sewer Line and Manhole Replacement Underway - August 19, 2024

Utility contractor BRS Inc. is working on manhole and sewer line replacement.  During the week of August 12, two sewer manholes were replaced on Summer Street.  Beginning the week of August 19, BRS will mobilize on C Street and Wade Street to replace old clay sewer lines and a stormwater culvert on C street.

Empire Drive Pump Station and Sewer Line Nearing Completion - August 2024

Utility contractor BRS, Inc. has made quick work of the Empire Drive Pump Station and force main sewer line along NC Highway 49.  The pump station and sewer line are on schedule to be operational in early September

Fire Station Updates-March 16, 2023

Fire Department Renovation/Addition:
Apparatus bay is complete, except for painting the walls and installing the Plymo Vent system, exterior walls are still being constructed, interior of the existing living quarters has been gutted with new electrical and plumbing rough-ins complete.  Estimated time for completion of project mid-summer 2023.

Park Project Updates-March 16, 2023

Concession stand is built, and the interior work is being completed, shingles will be added in the next two weeks, electrical conduit to be run from the concession stand to the electrical building, connecting sidewalk from the concession stand to the playground will be installed in the next few weeks, contractor and Town Staff are coordinating with Duke Energy on installation of the pedestrian lighting along the connecting sidewalk.  Estimated time of completion:  late Spring 2023

Fire Station Updates Jan 20

Footings are being poured off the front and back of station. Maybe some potential delays on the electrical panels based on delays occurring throughout the country. Exterior wall construction should start in the next few weeks.

Park Project Updates Jan 20

Old Castle has been secured as the concrete block vendor. Concrete block has been delivered, and walls are going up! Site Contractor doing water/sewer work: material has been ordered. They should begin work end of next week or around January 23.

Town of Mount Pleasant Purchases Historic Henderson-Barrier House

On Friday, the Town of Mount Pleasant purchased the historic Henderson-Barrier House located at 1431 N. Main Street from Ms. Kay Payne Beckett. As the oldest residence in Town, it is considered an important example of Greek Revival architecture.  The house is designated as a pivotal structure within the Mount Pleasant National Register Historic District, and the Town is committed to its long-term preservation.

Work to Begin at McAllister Ballfield

Work at the McAllister Ballfield area will start Thursday, August 25, 2022. Town Hall, the Senior Center, and Food Ministry will be without power ALL DAY, Aug 25. Food Ministry will be open using generators, and Town Hall will operate from the Fire Department.
