On Monday, September 15, the utility contractor will be performing an open cut across NC Highway 73 (Franklin Street) to continue the installation of the Main Street Waterline. The contractor has received approval from NCDOT for extended work hours that day in order to reduce the amount of time that the crew is working in the intersection. Traffic control will involve a shifting lane closure and flagging with assistance from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. Please be mindful as you approach and travel through this work zone. The contractor anticipates that the majority of the work on Highway 73 can be accomplished on Monday, followed by testing and flowable fill.
Also, during the week of September 15, the line will cross the corner of the parking lot that serves Moose Pharmacy and Buddy’s Place. Unfortunately, this will necessitate the parking lot entrance from S. Main Street and most of the parking area to the side of Moose Pharmacy and the front of Buddy’s will be closed. Parking for Downtown businesses is available behind Town Hall (accessible from Park Drive off of N. Washington St.), adjacent to the Lentz Building (accessible from the driveway between Grumpy’s Ice Cream/G2 Real Estate and Mt. Pleasant Smokehouse), at the gravel lot (accessible from S. Main Street), and the parking area behind Buddy’s Place (accessible from the driveway off of Barringer Drive).
The contractor will be working diligently to complete the work in the intersection and parking lot as quickly as possible next week. Once this segment is installed and testing complete, N. Main Street can reopen. N. Main Street is anticipated to fully reopen by early October. Installation will cross S. Main Street and continue down the east side of S. Main Street to Lee Street for the remainder of September into early October to complete the Main Street waterline, as Franklin Street waterline installation continues.
