Big Plans for Mount Pleasant are Underway.

As stated in the project update that the Town posted on July 31, State Utility has revised the waterline project schedule to complete work on Main Street prior to beginning work on West Franklin Street. At this time, State Utility is working on N. Main Street between Walnut Street and Park Drive, and this section of Main Street is closed to everyone except residents. Town Hall, McAllister Park, the Lion's Club, and the Cabarrus County Lunch Plus Program are all currently accessible on Park Drive from N. Washington Street only. The Public Parking Lot adjacent to the Lentz Building is still accessible from N. Main Street at this time, but may experience brief closures at this entrance over the next two weeks while crews are actively working. (reference map in comment section)

A major repair involving the old water line and NCDOT stormwater pipe is taking place at the intersection of N. Main Street and Walnut Street. N. Main Street is completely impassable at this location. This repair should be completed by the end of August. Local traffic may utilize N. Washington Street, Cook Street, N. College Street, and Elm Street navigate around the closure of N. Main Street at Walnut Street. N. Main Street remains accessible to local traffic between NC Highway 49 and Cook Street. Large trucks are not permitted on these roads. The posted detour route remains in place.

During the last two weeks of August, crews will begin making their way down Main Street toward Lee Street. This will necessitate open cuts across NC Highway 73 and then across S. Main Street. Highway 73 at Main Street in the Square will remain open with traffic control and flaggers during the open cut. Additional information will be provided once the work moves to S. Main Street.
